16 dead after militants raid beach in ivory Coast

16 people are dead after Al-Qaeda-linked militants attacked a beach resort in southern Ivory Coast.

The attackers fired guns on innocent beach-goers in Grand Bassam, a popular site with foreigners and locals alike, about 40km (25 miles) from the commercial capital Abidjan.

Of the dead are 4 foreigners, including a French and a German national, officials say. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has claimed the attack.

Officials reported that the gunmen have been "neutralized".
