Young lawyer murdered in her London home

A promising young lawyer and former public schoolgirl was murdered by a family friend at her £600,000 family home, a court heard today. Mechanic Peter Kibisu, 23, is accused of killing Elizabeth Nnyanzi, 31, on Thursday August 14, in Harrow, north west London. He appeared at Hendon Magistrates Court this morning charged with her murder.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth and wore a grey sweatshirt and jogging bottoms. Detectives were called to an address in Harrow, where the victim was believed to live with her family, shortly before 6pm on Friday, 14 August, to reports of an unresponsive woman.

She had previously volunteered for a year Freedom from Torture - an organisation supporting human rights abuse victims - according to her LinkedIn profile.

A relative, who did not wish to be named, told the Evening Standard: 'She's a lovely girl. So beautiful and doing very well. She was a very talented girl, a young star. 'It is a really big loss not just for the family but for society in general because she has always done good things for people.' A family friend said: 'She was a really nice girl, such a lovely person with a beautiful smile. She was so intelligent and I know how proud of her her mother and father were.

'It's just a huge shock. We haven't seen her family but we have sent a message of support. We just can't believe it.' Neighbour Bharat Thaker, a chauffeur, said he was shocked by death on the quiet suburban street. He said: 'They were a nice family, really nice girls. There were three sisters. 'Their mum is a teacher at a school just round the corner and she would always wave and say "hello, how are things?" if you passed her in the street.

'I'm just shocked. I was out very late working on Friday and I came back and saw all the police. 'I feel very sorry for the family.' Chair of the bench Mrs Ruth Cole remanded Mr Kibisu in custody until the next hearing on Thursday 20th at the Old Bailey.
